Fireproofing
While firestopping contains the spread of fire and smoke during a fire emergency, fireproofing protects the structural integrity of the building to prevent collapse during a fire. Fireproofing is one of many passive fire protection systems used in buildings to slow or contain the spread of fire and smoke during a fire-related emergency. Fireproofing is essential in new building construction and is often required by IBC, IFC, NFPA, and/or regional building codes.
